Theatre Trailers

Since 2023 in my community theatre experience, I have had the honor of making trailers for any stage shows that I have been a part of. My goal, for every trailer, is to draw the audience’s attention, convince them to come to these shows, help support community theatre, and help achieve what the people of the theatre want to promote their shows.

Shrek

In 2025, I got the chance to play various characters in Shrek the Musical at a community theatre in Norristown, PA called The Barn Playhouse. Our director, Tom Lamphere, wanted me to create 2-3 trailers for the Barn to post on their socials to promote the show. He wasn’t able to come up with the ideas, so I came up with three. One of them, I thought, “What if it was the same as the opening to the movie? That will attract the audience, even the ones who don’t know the musical but are fans of the movie.” In the end, it turned out to be our director’s favorite out of the three. Even though the pages I printed for the book didn’t come out the right size and the Shrek hood for our wonderful Shrek, Chris Bartholomew, didn’t arrive on time, I was extremely happy I was still able to make it work and meet the result I wanted it to be.

Ride the Cyclone

Early in 2026, I got the chance to play a Ukrainian bad boy in the dark but quirky musical, Ride the Cyclone, also directed by Tom at the Barn. For the trailers for this show, Tom did not want to give away that it’s a quirky and fun musical despite how dark the plot is. In fact, he said the exact same thing when we did Evil Dead the Musical, and you can find those trailers in the link at the top of the page. He wanted these trailers for Ride the Cyclone to be spooky, drawing, and cool without giving away much of the plot. So, he came up with the ideas and I got to make the magic happen. As a result, both of the trailers I made turned out exactly the way he wanted it and other people loved it too.

The Play That Goes Wrong

Right after Shrek at the same theatre, I got the chance to be a part of the hilarious slapstick comedy play, The Play That Goes Wrong. Both director, Deb Braak, and I were trying our best to come up with some ideas, but even if we did, some of them did not work. I guess it was because we were trying to promote the plot of the show, but then I thought, “Wait. We don’t have to. How about I just use the Barn logo throughout the trailer and work my way from there?” As a result, people loved it! It is a little bit of a shame that I only made one, but this was all we needed to sell our tickets and it became an instant top 3 favorite of mine. When you watch this video, you have to watch it with audio. Trust me.
